A Beautiful “Before + After” Bedroom

A Beautiful “Before + After” Bedroom

I believe that a beautiful home isn’t a luxury – it’s a psychological need. Research shows that aesthetically pleasing spaces (add a view of nature for bonus points) improve emotional well-being, reduce anxiety, and even promote healing. Natural environments engage our minds in a soft, effortless way—called soft fascination. This allows our cognitive resources (especially from overstimulation and decision fatigue) to recover.  What a way to begin and end each day!

To prove this point, I’ve learned that few things capture attention quite like a dramatic before-and-after… and this transformation delivers! We were thrilled to redesign this spacious primary suite for wonderful clients in North Caldwell, blending beauty, comfort, and a personal connection to their garden views.

We selected a soft, muted grasscloth for the walls to create warmth and texture, then added a floral wallpaper to accentuate the dramatic trayed ceiling and naturally draw the eye upward.

The layout remained the same—it already worked well—but every other detail received a thoughtful refresh. We introduced a four-poster bed to add architectural interest and balance the scale of the room, while a washable linen duvet keeps the space both beautiful and pet-friendly. We layered in color and pattern with custom shams and throw pillows to complete the look. A custom storage bench anchors the foot of the bed, while a pair of wool plaid swivel chairs were selected to offer the perfect spot to take in the garden views. The antique glass mirrored armoire provides additonal storage.

A velvet and linen chaise in shades of blue and green offers the perfect perch to unwind with a book—or simply take in more of the garden views.

In this primary bedroom, the details truly shine. A Venetian mirror adds timeless elegance above the chest of drawers, while the lampshade, covered in the same fabric as the shams, quietly ties the room together.
